The City Palace houses the throne of the Maharaja of Jaipur who once headed the Kachwaha Rajput clan. Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, who was the ruler of Amber from 1699 to 1744, originated the construction of the city complex that spreads over acres. He first ordered to firm the outer wall of the palace complex. The structure that was started in 1729 took three years to be completed. The palace complex was completely built in 1732. A perfect Combination of colours, designs, art and culture can be seen in every compartment of the palace.

History

Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II built this Palace. As most architecture in Jaipur, this palace also reflects the fusion of Rajput and Mughal architecture. The City Palace compound is spread over a large area covering one-seventh of the old city of Jaipur. It has an arrangement of gardens, courtyards and buildings, museum and temple to give it a grand view that flashes its historical importance and magnificent royal grace. Raja Jai Singh built its outer boundary, and other structures were built by his successors to add charm to it. Former Maharaja of Jaipur used this place as his residence.

  • Entrance Gates: One of the most stunning features of the complex is its abundantly decorated gateways. There are total three entry gates to the compound, namely Udai Pol, Tripolia Gate, and the Virendra Pol.
  • Govind Dev Ji temple: The palace complex also integrate a temple named Govind Dev Ji temple. This temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna which is assumed to be constructed in the early 18th century. A lovely garden environment encloses the temple. Seven times a day prayers are offered to the Lord in this temple. The temple was build up at this place so that the Maharaja can have a pleasant view of the temple while sitting in his Chandra Mahal.
  • The walls of the Jaipur city as Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh was a great thinker he along with architects Vidyadhar Bhattacharya and Shilpa Shastra made the walls of the city of Jaipur which was built on the principles of Indian science of architecture, Vastu.
